Progress Report Distribution is Changing
With the adoption of Infinite Campus and the plethora of information available via the web, Arapahoe has decided to make a change in how we distribute grade information. In the past we have printed progress reports at 6-weeks and 12-weeks, and then a final semester grade at the end of the semester. This approach no longer seems to be as necessary or efficient as it once was. Each parent has the ability to get a parent portal account that gives them real-time access to student grade information directly from teachers’ gradebooks, as well as access to the grade reports themselves at six week intervals (the grade report you can choose to print is identical to the one we print). All students also have portal accounts that allow them to access their grade information. Instead of waiting a week or more after the progress report period has ended to receive an already outdated printed copy, students and parents can logon at any time and receive up-to-date information. Consequently, next semester we will only be printing the final semester grade in June (when it gets mailed home, typically with other information). We will still have 6-week and 12-week progress reports that are available online, but we will not be printing them. If any parent does not have access to the Internet, you may ask your student to print a copy here at school or stop by the main office and we can print one for you.

If you do not have a parent portal account yet, download the forms you need, then bring them to AHS with photo identification.

Department Spotlight – Business Department
DECA and FBLA are gearing up for district competitions. DECA held a practice session in November for members to practice role plays with business community leaders. DECA members compete in December in manuals and role plays covering a wide variety of marketing topics.

FBLA members are selling Arapahoe Drawstring Bags for $10 to fundraise for their district competition fee. These make a wonderful holiday gift. They are great for a workout bag or for a quick trip. See an FBLA member or Jess Moots in the business office to purchase. FBLA members will compete in February in events ranging from Accounting to Entrepreneurship to Computers, just to name a few. Best of luck to both clubs as they prepare for competition.

Having difficulty with your computer class assignments? FBLA will hold a “Computer Tutor Night” on Tuesday, December 13th at 2:30 in Room S2. The Business Mini Lab is available for student use from 7 a.m.-3 p.m. daily. Students are encouraged to use this lab on any off periods.

Department Spotlight – Art Department
Our Arapahoe art students are producing such exciting and creative work this year and certainly enjoying our new facility! Artwork by our outstanding Arapahoe artists will be on display in the Theater Hallway December 7-13th. We invite everyone to view the show and enjoy these wonderful creative visuals! Arapahoe will also have artwork on display at the Educational Services Center in the Main Lobby during the month of January.

Art Club will be taking a field trip to the 2006 Scholastics Exhibition at the Museum of Outdoor Art during the month of January. Check in the Art Department after Winter Break for further details. This is a wonderful opportunity for our Arapahoe students to view outstanding artwork from around the entire state done by their peers. Art Club is presently involved in a variety of art activities. Campaign: “Students inspiring students to drive safely and responsibly. Let no one ever forget again.”

4th Annual Toys for Tots
Again this year, the Attendance Crew is coordinating a toy drive for students less fortunate. We would love for all of you to join us in the fun!

Last year our toy drive was extremely successful and rewarding. We were overwhelmed with the generosity of the Arapahoe staff, students and parents. We delivered more than 1200 toys to Swansea and East Elementary schools, and provided toys to the Denver Indian Center, Arapahoe Santa Shop, two women’s shelters and several Arapahoe families. All of this was possible because of you!

The success of the toy drive over the last three years has brought lots of community interest. This year, we are “re-adopting” Fletcher Elementary. You may recall that Fletcher was the first recipient of our “Toys for Tots” campaign. They have asked us to return this year – and we are thrilled to do so! There are 550 students who attend Fletcher and come from very loving families, but their parents struggle to provide the bare necessities. Our goal is to provide a new toy for each student at Fletcher.

There are many ways for you to be a part of this rewarding experience. We need lots of toys and gift wrappers. We are always happy to accept cash donations if you don’t have time to shop. We hope you will encourage all of your students to get involved as well! Last year, we were truly inspired by so many kids who cared. Student clubs, athletic teams, and individual classes contributed greatly to the overall success of the toy drive.

Once again, we have set a price range between $10 and $15 per toy. By keeping within this price range, we can guarantee that each child will receive an appropriate, new toy. Please do not wrap your toys. We will have an after school wrapping party on December 12th. Last year close to 100 students, staff, and parents wrapped over 1000 toys in less than an hour - amazing!

If you have any questions or ideas, please call or come by the Attendance Office. We will be accepting toys and donations through December 15th. Thank you so much for helping us spread a little Arapahoe holiday cheer!

12 Week Progress Reports
Wednesday, November 9th marks the end of the first 12 weeks. Teachers will submit progress report grades by the end of the week. Grades will then be printed and distributed on Friday, November 18th (slightly later than usual due to Arena Scheduling on Wednesday). Students and parents with Portal accounts can view the grades online as soon as teachers submit them.

Department Spotlight – Technology Education
The Technology and Journalism Department has moved in! The new rooms are awesome and the transition is continuing. The Technology classes also received funding for a new curriculum. This means new software and hardware around the room. Robotics, mills, lathes, printers, computers, and a laser engraver are now available for the students to use in class. The 3-D printer is printing in color, and pretty soon if you walk by E7 you will see the robotic arm performing a new task. Come by and see all the new stuff.
