Back To School Night
Next Wednesday, August 30th, is Back to School Night. Please visit the Arapahoe website for all the details.

Science Teacher Visits Japan
Arapahoe High School science teacher Brian Hatak was one of forty high school teachers from ten states to be selected to participate in a two week study trip over the summer in Japan. The project was funded by a grant through Toyota Motor Company and organized by the Institute of International Education. You can read more about it online as Brian was recently featured in the Centennial edition of YourHub.

AHS Alumni Who Are Also Parents of Seniors
Yearbook staff is looking for parents who are AHS alumni and have students in the senior class. If you are a household with a second generation AHS graduate, or know someone who is, please let us know with an e-mail to yearbook adviser Mrs. Crozier.

Fall Sports Schedule
The Fall Sports Schedule is now available online via the Arapahoe Website.

Department Spotlight – Business Department
It’s BACK TO BUSINESS at AHS! The year is off to a great start in the Business Department and we’re excited to welcome two new faces. Erin Grantham joins us in our marketing program and will be teaching all marketing courses, in addition to Introduction to Computer Applications and Computer Applications I. She also sponsors DECA (An Association of Marketing Students) and manages the school store. Erin has a B.A. in Business Finance from Colorado State University and a Masters from University of Phoenix. She continues to be a big CSU football fan and enjoys snowboarding in her spare time. Erin has also worked as a loan officer and branch manager in the banking industry. The second new member of our team is Aaron Berthold who comes to us from Chicago and will be teaching Career Connections, Introduction to Computer Applications, and Computer Applications 2 this fall. Prior to living in Chicago, Aaron taught at Regis for five years after graduating from Illinois State University. He is an avid runner and is an assistant cross country coach this fall.

We encourage students to get involved in either Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) or DECA. FBLA is open to all students and is a great club for anyone interested in studying business. FBLA is having a pizza party for their first meeting of the year on Monday, September 11th at 2:15. All marketing students are encouraged to become active DECA members. DECA members will again be selling Entertainment Books this fall for $25. Both clubs attend competitions at the district, state and national level and participate in many social and community service activities through the year. See Mrs. Swank (FBLA) and Mrs. Grantham (DECA) for more information.

We look forward to seeing all parents at Back to School Night. We will have a detailed brochure available on all of our course offerings. Also be sure to stop by the school store and check out all the new Arapahoe clothing!

Dress is casual, cost is only $5 and only Arapahoe students are invited to attend. So make sure you bring your student ID, get on your dancing shoes and we’ll see you tonight!

Club Café
Club Café will be held on Monday, August 21st at 2:15 in the cafeteria. Club Cafe is an opportunity for students to find out more about clubs and activities at Arapahoe. This is particularly helpful for Freshmen and upperclassmen new to AHS. DECA, Art, Spanish, and Bowling are just a few of the many clubs we have at Arapahoe.

Department Spotlight – Art Department
ART in ACTION. Welcome back to all our Arapahoe artists and to our new Freshman artists! The Art Department is excited about the new year and making "art happen". Our first Art Club meeting will be Monday, August 28th to get things rolling for Homecoming. Do come join us and bring your creative ideas!

“FRAME IT UP with JOHN VAN NEST.” The Art Department is delighted to again have a partnership with DJ and Nancy Hallowell of the "FRAME IT UP" gift and frame shop located at 7533 S. University Blvd. (across the street from Arapahoe). We have started a new program where one of our outstanding Arapahoe artists will be featured at the 'FRAME IT UP" shop each month. John Van Nest has been selected as our September Artist of the Month. His artwork will be on display at the 'FRAME IT UP" during the month of September. We invite our students, staff and community to stop in and celebrate the wonderful work by John. We in the Art Department are very excited to have this opportunity to showcase the creative excellence of our Arapahoe artists. We thank DJ and Nancy Hallowell and their staff for supporting the visual arts in our community!
